Hi,

I just wanted to let you know that your method is quite amazing.
I only got your book a few days ago and started to work on one of my horses, Cushings and IR, 16 y old, with lots of tension all over his body. I can’t even count the many different people who have worked on him to no major avail. It was absolutely amazing how this horse released over and over, and how much better he used his front legs after only this one session.

Another large gelding, 9 y old, always had trouble going downhill, it was very uncomfortable for him, not a good thing when you live in Vermont. Again, he had many professionals working on him and he did get somewhat better but never normal.
I did not have much time so I just released where I knew he had problems, and he went downhill 90% improved.
Today again I spent about 20 minutes with him, then took him on 2 hour long ride with lots of hills, he felt totally normal. His muscles in the troubled areas are still sore to touch, but he now has the freedom to use them properly. I still have to pinch myself that this is really true. I have 5 horses, so I will get to work on the others. Will let you know if I encounter further amazing changes.

Thank you so much for making your method available.

Kind regards

I have had great success working on several of my horses before I ride them. The article in the newsletter on muscle memory helps explain this. They are much more relaxed and much more receptive.

On the other hand, I have an Appendix Quarter horse who is about 17. We have had him for a couple of years.
I think he had some good training early in his career, but he had been ridden and treated hard right before we got him. He was very stiff, very uncooperative when we bought him. His gaits were very choppy.

He is a poster child for Masterson Method. He carries his body so differently now, uses himself so much better. He’s much softer, much more relaxed in general. His whole attitude is more positive. He is less spooky.
But I cannot work on him before I ride him. If I do, he is so relaxed he can barely stand up! After I ride is much better for him.

And he’s really been a case of “peel the onion”. I keep getting more and more release through his poll and neck. He was stiff as a board, and now is very supple.
I am very grateful to you for pioneering this great method of working with horses, and for being so open and willing to share it.

Thank you so much. And my horses thank you even more.

I have been using the DVD to work on my horses and had great results; I am excited to learn more. I released a point on my geldings shoulder he yawned and did a cat stretch then laid down and slept while I worked on the other side of his neck, it was really cool. In fact that's how I finally found out what was going on with him. The vets had been looking at hocks and stifles, I told them he carried all the tension in his right neck and shoulder. They did nerve blocks, x-rayed and found pedal ostiosis (sp) in the coffin bones and a bone spur on the right ankle.

Dear Jim, My horse tends to be a little spooky, he has a long history I won't go into. However after treating him once a week using your Method, he has learned to release tension from his body and nervous system under saddle making him more confident and a safer mount. I work him through whatever has spooked him and then he will sigh and I feel the tension leave his body. He has gotten much better on trails, and now I have another tool in our journey toward complete communication.

Just yesterday, I was at a horse rescue and was working on an older horse
who is used to help reach troubled foster children but who has started to
pin his ears when saddled. I used what I learned from Jim's DVD and got some incredible releases when I worked on his back - he actually stretched his front legs out and did a
sort of bow, all the way down till his chest touched the ground. He did that twice, then shook his neck a few times and snorted. Talk about positive reactions!
Thanks again for your time and consideration.

Without access to a professional, you may wish to learn the procedures from Masterson’s DVD on training methods. It’s a means to some basic skills and a way to recognize symptoms before they show up as pain. You can learn to read the horse’s responses to your touch so you know if he’s telling you something is wrong before he’s in pain. If you get good results with that, you may then want to take one of Masterson’s workshops or training seminars. Whether you’re a skeptic or advocate of holistic practices, Masterson and his methods may be worth checking out.

I found your DVD to be exceptionally well done. I learned a great deal and was able to apply the techniques you taught right away. One of my stallions has been showing irritation and discomfort in his poll and TMJ, and he is already much softer and more relaxed after using your techniques. My trainer who specializes in developing correct movement watched on my laptop in the barn, and I had to turn it off to get her into the arena with the horse as she was so enthralled!

I have a story about massaging a particular horse; as has become my habit, I stopped by the stables to massage a couple horses Saturday, and while I was there, one of them (Clark) suffered a cut above his left eye from the hoof of his pasture buddy (Henry) as they were romping about. The cut was serious enough that the vet was called. In the meantime, Clark was cross tied to prevent him rubbing the wound, so I decided to do some gentle massage around the poll area, thinking the force of Henry's hoof to be significant enough to give Clark a very big headache.

Immediately, Clark started releasing by chewing, and twisting his lips all around and snorting. I did this for about 15 minutes, and then I just gently stroked his neck until the vet arrived. The vet gave Clark a mild sedative, and during the cleaning, and stitching procedure, Clark's head rested on my shoulder - this was about a 45 minute procedure, during which time I kept talking to him and stroking his neck and poll area. He was then taken to his stall, where he was closely monitored. I stopped by Sunday to see how he was - the swelling had gone down and he looked fine. I massaged him for a little while and he released more stress. He didn't seem comfortable with an over-all massage, so I didn't push it.
The techniques I used were all from Jim's video, and the Reiki I used in conjunction with the massage I learned a number of years ago and find very effective. I learned horses could get headaches by reading Jim's blog on-line, so thank you, as a result, I could bring Clark some relief.

I have started the process of getting my horse used to the massage. I began just as in the video and will continue each body part as suggested. I have only gotten to the part that explains massaging his poll with head down. I am working on doing it without a halter. I move the process slowly so he feels that I am doing for him, not to him.

Today he allowed me to bring his head down and massage his poll for the 2nd time. This time his eyes softened and I continued for a few minutes than stepped back and he shook his head just like in the video! I have used the beginning massage each time. Today when I was riding, he felt like butter. He even offered to stretch his top-line in a lovely, buttery canter. I know this helps him to be loose from front to back already. I can't wait to progress through the video to see how this helps him move. Thanks for your DVD! Linda

I just wanted to let you know that I received the DVD as ordered. I have watched the DVD several times, as each time I feel I have learned something I missed before. My 8 year old Arabian Gelding has experienced back and sciatic problems and carries his tail to the right. We found a wonderful equine chiropractor in Sarasota, Florida who has been a tremendous blessing. Watching him working with my horse and other horses is what made me search for an equine massage DVD. I have found your DVD to be extremely similar to my chiropractor’s methods. My Arabian is responding well. I like the way your DVD identifies the equine releasers and how it explains that fidgeting is part of the release process. This is also a great way to bond with your horse.

I have an older horse whose is a little ‘crocked’ and has suffered from a painful back for many years (before I had him.) He’s very sensitive and protests about most contact including stroking. If you try he will head butt or nip! I had been spending a lot of money on having professional physio and laser treatment and thought it would be a good idea to practice some myself in between doses - mostly to save money! I had been looking at ‘do it yourself horse massage’ books and found them ok, but it was difficult to then remember that info and then use it on my horse. Then I found this DVD! I watch a little every week and remember a little more and refresh on what I have already learned. Then I practice it on my horse, who I am so pleased to say is really starting to enjoy it! I start with massaging his head then work down his neck- he seams to realize that it is not going to hurt but help! It is also helping me to recognize when his back is painful so that I can call out the professional physio and help him earlier. The DVD is really clear, the quality is brilliant and easy to understand. It is a great way to improve your knowledge of the horse and the rewards can only be excellent for both you and the horse.

I would thoroughly recommend owning one of these DVDs as an essential part of any sport or performance horse owner’s tool kit. Even if you only practice several of the techniques pre-ride daily, the ongoing benefits to your horse will be measurable.

Hi Jim, I met you briefly at Equitana in Melbourne, Australia, and purchased your DVD, we have harness racing horses as well as riding ponies/horses. Since watching the DVD over and over we have started therapy with all of our horses and have had some pretty awesome results. My 13 year old son insists his riding horse has a massage from mum every time he rides her - and she is so much more relaxed and respondent from doing so. Thank you so much for such an informative tool in our stables. We are destined for many wins in 2009. Thanks again.

I wanted to compliment you on my recent sales transaction. I loved the checkout, fast reply for my purchase and email of my paid invoice. Then to get the DVD with the thank you note and brochure topped that off, but I LOVE THE DVD - great job

As a practitioner of Chinese Medicine, I found Jim Masterson’s approach to treating equine problems to be amazingly powerful. By using proven techniques that get directly to the horses’ brain, nervous, and endocrine systems, amazing results can be achieved even in only one session treatment. I had been working on a 9 year old Hunter who was unable to be ridden for the last two years due to cervical and sacroiliac dysfunction. Within 3 sessions, I now have the horse lunging steadily and he is able to take a 150lb rider on his back without any pain or dysfunction!
